Though this generation Kave 5.1 is lighter and slightly cheaper than the previous set when I bought it, I cant recommend this headset for anything other than gaming. With great prices, fast shipping, and top-rated customer service - Newegg shopping upgraded. Please email us if youre running the latest version of your browser and you still see this message. The actual Open Box product may differ in packaging and included accessories, but has been tested to ensure basic functionality.
No LED on mic or control box tried external usb and computer usb for power and nothing. I have yet to actually use them due to this they are sitting in the box they were delivered in. The ride side cup has had one of its speakers become loose and with a lot of bass in the games I play it has become frustrating, especially because you know its coming half the time. This should just be an issue to me and otherwise except those moments it is a great experience. I did not abuse it and kept it on a stand (when not on my head) for about two months before it crapped out. I even unplugged the USB after use to make sure the power into the system was off. I am willing to chalk up my previous 3 star review to a bad unit because the RMA (process was smooth, support was fast and easy) replacement so far sounds superior to the first one I bought. The range and output is what you would expect from a 5.1 and fidelity is very good. The accompanying mixer can help you tailor the noise how you like it. Im listening to Youre a woman, Im a machine by Death From Above 1979 and, though hollow as another review points out (due to the light weight of the set), the bassline is well delivered and each note can be understood. Its a muddled song with deliberately grungy production, so thats saying something. Id rather have the heavier, clearer, better predecessor and a neck brace, and I also had to RMA this one. Original Review 5 December, 2015 The headset has most of the unique features that made the original Roccat Kave 5.1 a good headset. It has 5.1 analog and an EQ that sits on the desk (though this one can also clip onto your shirt). It also has a nice click and some numbers on the side of the headband when youre adjusting it to fit your head. This iteration of the Kave 5.1 is A LOT lighter than the previous one, so they were obviously listening to some of the feedback when designing this one. Unfortunately the lighter weight means an incredible loss in sound quality. This doesnt affect games so much as the speakers in the headset compress noises into treble, low mid, and bass. Where you see the biggest difference between the two is the inability for this headset to drive midrange noise, response to quick changes in sound, and the production of distorted bass acoustics. If you listen to any kind of electronic music, its safe to say you need another headset or a dedicated music player. I have tried listening to music ranging from Grabbitz, Noisia, and Deadmau5 to Mulatu Astatke, Herbie Hancock, and Duke Ellington. Quite frankly, at its price point it was the best headset I ever had, gaming or otherwise.
